After a free-spirited youth in the sleepy town of Austin circa mid 1970s-90s, Julia wanted to explore life in a big city... Upon selling her Austin home to finance her dream, Julia pursued her curiosity and moved to New York City where she resided for 14 years. First, she tried her hand in the art department of a major record label (Elektra Records), then dabbled in reality television (Discovery Channel's Biker Build-Off), and studied Interior Design at New York's renowned Fashion Institute of Technology. With a cunning mind for business, innate ability to read people, and an eye for housing trends, Julia found her niche in NYC real estate, specializing in residential sales and commercial leasing. She also fell in love...
Having enjoyed much success practicing real estate, and curiosity about big city life sated, Julia began to yearn for comfort over daily hustle. In late 2014 she leapt at the chance to join her partner, Christian, in his native Abruzzo, Italy. After getting settled along the Adriatic Sea, in Pescara, Julia acquired a funky vintage car and set out to explore Italy's food and culture. It was a wonderful year making friends, absorbing historic beauty, and living a relaxed life--quite the opposite of NYC! Maybe too opposite... Family and yearn to work pulled Julia (and Christian) back to the United States.
Initially returning to the arms of New York City, Julia wondered: where can a part city/ part country girl find the balance between action and peace? Then, on an impromptu visit to see family, it struck her: "Austin is not so sleepy anymore!" Still relaxed and easygoing, Austin had developed it's own edge and sense of self. Julia quickly sold Christian on the idea of life in The River City; they packed up a truck, grabbed the dog, and drove home to Austin, Texas.
Today Julia and Christian contentedly reside in Austin's Allandale neighborhood. Life along Shoal Creek is a far cry from the Adriatic seaside; but Austin leaves nothing wanting with its unique mix of downtown bustle, live music, and excellent food juxtaposed against tree-lined streets, hiking trails, and abundance of swimming holes. Interesting people, places, and opportunities abound in ATX.
